A new headquarters for vzw KatOBA in Brussels!

At the start of the 2020-2021 school year, vzw KatOBA will move into a beautiful building on the Nieuwe Graanmarkt. This building will house all support services of KatOBA (general policy, pedagogical policy cell, infrastructure cell, prevention cell, ICT cell, material & logistics policy, personnel administration, accounting).

A look at the future in a historical context.

KatOBA can now be found in this beautiful neoclassical building at Nieuwe Graanmarkt 32! It was built in 1787 as part of the “architectural unity” that then became the Nieuwe Graanmarkt, designed by architects Rémy Nivoy and Claude Fisco.

Unfortunately, this architectural unity has not stood the test of time. Besides the house number 32 that KatOBA now houses, only the neighboring building (house number 33-34), now the seat of the Salvation Army, is still existing. Those who want to get an impression of the grandeur that the entire square must have radiated during that time, can take a look at the Martelarenplein. This square, too, was laid out as a neoclassical architectural unit according to a design by Claude Fisco and has been particularly well preserved to this day.

The fact that this building on the Nieuwe Graanmarkt is a protected monument means that the renovation has been carried out with the greatest care and respect for the past. Authentic elements have been preserved or reconstructed, while the building still meets all contemporary requirements that enable us to work qualitatively and efficiently.

KatOBA is particularly proud to be able to build the Brussels of tomorrow from this beautiful setting that brings the city’s rich past to life.
