Festive opening of primary school Nieuwland!

On Friday, September 1, 2023, Primary School Nieuwland was opened in the center of Brussels. After several years of thorough renovation, the renovated school site was presented in the presence of minister Sven Gatz.

The result is impressive: Primary school Nieuwland looks modern, functional, child-friendly and stylish. The school is more than ever ready for the future! This school year, 240 pre-school and primary school children can already enjoy this beautiful school environment under the wings of a full school team!

Brussels minister and VGC board member responsible for Education and School Construction, Sven Gatz, summarizes it as follows:

It took some effort, but today we are proud of the result: a modern, multifunctional Dutch-speaking primary school in the heart of Brussels. When school boards and governments join forces, we achieve great results and we ensure an expansion of the capacity in our strong Dutch-language education in Brussels.”

Piet Ketele, managing director of the KATOBA school board, is also satisfied:

With a fully-fledged primary school on the Cellebroers site and on the Nieuwland site, we have room for a total of 460 students, with a strong team of teachers.”

Brian Rotsaert, director of Primary School Nieuwland, beamed at the opening of ‘his’ school: “Despite the teacher shortage, we are starting this new school year with a complete and qualified school team. As director, I feel more confident than ever in my team, that every day with enthusiasm, commitment and perseverance for our students”.

The VGC invested just over 5 million euros in the construction project of Primary School Nieuwland, in which the playground will also be completely renovated this school year, into a safe and inspiring environment. With this construction project, the school board and the VGC can provide an answer to the request of parents to send their children to a Dutch-speaking school in the center of Brussels.
